Promotion Fun

Each year our homeschool group has a graduation/promotion for the kids. It is nice for the kids to realize they are moving up. We, like most homeschoolers, don't go by grades. The reading program I have for Andy can be used in a number of grades, the math also. The history we are using for Andy and Ellyn, and the science is for grade 1-4. Many times with homeschool moms they get asked what grades their kids are in, and it kind of throws them for a loop. The usual answer is "Well my kids are such and such ages". There are books that give a guide to show parents what is needed in each grade level. In Utah we are not required to do any testing, but most do in high school. Not for grade level requirements, but more for learning how to test. That is what we are thinking. There are some families that start testing earlier and test every other year. More for grade level evaluation. We are taking the month of June off of "school", no book work, but the kids are definitely going to be learning while we are on vacation to Mexico. We will start back in July. The kids just do better with a routine. They know when they get up what to expect each day. It keeps them from getting bored, and you know what happens to kids when they get bored, they get into trouble. And our kids succeed in that area of life!

These pictures are from our promotion program. Andy is now 4th grade and Ellyn kindergarten. Andy was so excited he hung up his certificate in his room. The kids also get to set up a table to display their work from the past year. When I was getting ready for the kids display table I began to wonder if they had any work to display. And I found that we had done quite a bit of work this year. The kids were very proud of their work.
